시편 53편은 하나님이 없다고 말하는 어리석은 자의 부패와 온 인류의 죄를 탄식하고, 시온에서 올 구원을 바라는 다윗의 시이다. 시편 14편과 거의 같은 내용이다.

1（大衛的 訓誨詩，交與伶長。調用麻哈拉。）愚頑人 心裡 說：沒有 神。他們都是邪惡，行了可憎惡的 罪孽；沒有一個人 行 善。
2神 從天上 垂看 世人，要看 有 明白的沒有？有尋求他的沒有？
3他們各人都 退後，一同 變為污穢；並沒有 行 善的，連 一個 也沒有。
4作 孽 的沒有 知識嗎？他們吞吃 我的百姓 如同吃 飯一樣，並不 求告 神。
5他們在無 可 懼怕 之處 就大大害怕，因為 神 把那安營攻擊你之人 的骨頭 散開了。你使他們蒙羞，因為 神 棄絕了他們。
6但願 以色列 的救恩 從錫安而出。 神 救回 他被擄的 子民那時，雅各 要快樂，以色列 要歡喜。
