시편 124편은 '성전에 올라가는 노래' 가운데 하나로, 여호와께서 편이 되어 주지 않으셨다면 이스라엘이 원수에게 삼켜졌을 것이라고 돌아보며 구원을 찬송하는 8절짜리 공동체 감사시이다.

¹If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;이스라엘이 하는 말, "야훼께서 우리 편이 아니셨더면,

²If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:원수들이 우리를 치러 일어났을 때 야훼께서 우리 편이 아니셨더면

³Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:그들은 달려들어 살기등등, 산 채로 우리를 집어삼켰으리라.

⁴Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:거센 물살에 우리는 휩쓸리고 마침내 물에 빠져 죽고 말았으리라.

⁵Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.거품 뿜는 물결에 빠져 죽고 말았으리라."

⁶Blessed be the LORD , who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.야훼를 찬미하여라. 우리를 원수들에게 먹히지 않게 하셨다.

⁷Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.새 잡는 그물에서 참새를 구하듯이 우리의 목숨을 건져내셨다.

⁸Our help is in the name of the LORD , who made heaven and earth.그물은 찢어지고 우리는 살아났다. 하늘과 땅을 만드신 분, 야훼의 이름밖에는 우리의 구원이 없구나. Notes
