시편 129편은 '성전에 올라가는 노래' 묶음에 속한 8절짜리 시이다. 어릴 때부터 거듭 괴롭힘을 당했으나 꺾이지 않은 이스라엘의 고백과, 시온을 미워하는 자들이 물러가기를 비는 기도를 담고 있다.

¹Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:이스라엘이 하는 말,

²Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me."젊어서부터 내가 받은 그 학대들. 그래도 나는 꺾이지 않았지.

³The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.밭 가는 자들이 내 등을 갈아 엎어 기나긴 고랑을 지었지만

⁴The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.의로우신 야훼께서는 악인들의 멍에를 박살내셨다."

⁵Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.시온의 원수들아, 모두 망신당하고 물러들 가라.

⁶Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:지붕 위의 풀포기처럼 뽑을 새도 없이 시들어버려라.

⁷Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.베는 이의 손에도 묶는 이의 아름에도 차지 않으니

⁸Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you: we bless you in the name of the LORD .지나는 사람, 아무도 "야훼의 복이 너희에게 있기를! 야훼의 이름으로 너희에게 복을 빈다." 하는 사람이 없으리라.
