¹Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,야훼께서 욥에게 폭풍 속에서 대답하셨다.

²Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?부질없는 말로 나의 뜻을 가리는 자가 누구냐?

³Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.대장부답게 허리를 묶고 나서라. 나 이제 물을 터이니 알거든 대답해 보아라.

⁴Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.내가 땅의 기초를 놓을 때 너는 어디에 있었느냐? 그렇게 세상물정을 잘 알거든 말해 보아라.

⁵Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?누가 이 땅을 설계했느냐? 그 누가 줄을 치고 금을 그었느냐?

⁶Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;어디에 땅을 받치는 기둥이 박혀 있느냐? 그 누가 세상의 주춧돌을 놓았느냐?

⁷When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?그 때 새벽별들이 떨쳐 나와 노래를 부르고 모든 하늘의 천사들이 나와서 합창을 불렀는데,

⁸Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?바다가 모태에서 터져 나올 때 그 누가 문을 닫아 바다를 가두었느냐?

⁹When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,바다를 구름으로 싸고 먹구름으로 묶어둔 것은 바로 나였다.

¹⁰And brake up for it my decreed place , and set bars and doors,바다가 넘지 못하도록 금 그어놓고 문에 빗장을 내려놓은 것은 바로 나였다.

¹¹And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?그리고 나는 명령을 내렸다. "여기까지는 와도 좋지만 그 이상은 넘어오지 마라. 너의 도도한 물결은 여기에서 멈춰야 한다."

¹²Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;네가 언제고 동이 틀 것을 명령해 본 일이 있느냐? 새벽의 여신에게 "이것이 네 자리다." 하고 일러준 일이 있느냐?

¹³That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?땅의 옷깃을 휘어잡고 불의한 사람들을 그 속에서 털어내라고 명령을 내려본 일이 있느냐?

¹⁴It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.네가 땅을 도장찍힌 흙벽돌처럼 붉게 만들고 옷처럼 울긋불긋하게 만들겠느냐?

¹⁵And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.불량배들이 대낮처럼 활보하던 어둠을 벗기고 높이 쳐들었던 그 팔을 꺾기라도 하겠느냐?

¹⁶Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?네가 바닷속 깊이 더듬어 내려가 바닷물이 솟는 샘구멍까지 찾아가 보았느냐?

¹⁷Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?너는 죽음의 문이 환히 드러나는 것과 암흑의 나라 대문이 뚜렷이 나타나는 것을 본 일이 있느냐?

¹⁸Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.네가 넓은 땅 위를 구석구석 살펴 알아보지 못한 것이 없거든, 어서 말해 보아라.

¹⁹Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,빛의 전당으로 가는 길은 어디냐? 어둠이 도사리고 있는 곳은 어디냐?

²⁰That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?너는 빛을 제 나라로 이끌어가고 어둠을 본고장으로 몰아갈 수 있느냐?

²¹Knowest thou it , because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?네가 그 한 옛날에 태어나 오래오래 살았으므로 그래서 모르는 것이 없단 말이냐?

²²Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,너는 흰 눈을 저장해 둔 곳에 가본 일이 있으며, 우박 창고에 들어가 본 일이 있느냐?

²³Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?그것들은 어려운 일이 생기거나 적군이 쳐들어와 전쟁이라도 일어나면 쓰려고 보관해 둔 것들이다.

²⁴By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?바람이 갈라지는 목이 어디인지를 너는 아느냐? 샛바람이 땅 위에서 어느 쪽으로 흩어지는지,

²⁵Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;소나기가 타고 올 길을 누가 텄는지, 먹구름이 천둥치며 쏟아져 내릴 곳을 누가 팠는지, 너는 아느냐?

²⁶To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;사람이란 얼씬도 하지 않는 곳, 인종이란 있어본 적도 없는 광야에 비가 쏟아져

²⁷To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?거친 들을 흠뻑 적시고 메말랐던 땅에 푸성귀가 돋아 나게 하는 것이 누구냐?

²⁸Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?비에게 아비라도 있단 말이냐? 방울방울 이슬을 낳은 어미라도 있단 말이냐?

²⁹Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?얼음을 잉태한 배라도 있단 말이냐? 하늘에서 서리를 낳아 내릴 배라도 있단 말이냐?

³⁰The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.물이 돌처럼 단단해지고 깊은 물이 꽁꽁 얼어붙을 때에.

³¹Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?네가 북두칠성에게 굴레라도 씌우고 오리온 성좌의 사슬을 풀어주기라도 한단 말이냐?

³²Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?네가 성좌들을 정한 시간에 이끌어내고 대웅좌 소웅좌를 인도해 내기라도 한단 말이냐?

³³Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?네가 천상의 운행 법칙을 결정하고 지상의 자연 법칙을 만들었느냐?

³⁴Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?너는 구름에 호령하여 물을 동이로 쏟아 땅을 뒤덮게 할 수 있느냐?

³⁵Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are ?네가 "나가라."고 명령하면 "알았습니다." 하며 번갯불이 번쩍 퉁겨 나가느냐?

³⁶Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?누가 따오기에게 지혜를 주었느냐? 누가 닭에게 슬기를 주었느냐?

³⁷Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,누가 구름을 셀 만한 천재이냐? 하늘에서 독을 기울여 물을 쏟을 수 있는 사람이 누구냐?

³⁸When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?먼지가 덩이와 덩이로 굳어졌다가 하나로 뭉쳐지게 되도록

³⁹Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,네가 사자에게 먹이를 잡아줄 수 있느냐? 허기진 새끼 사자들의 배를 채워줄 수 있느냐?

⁴⁰When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?굴 속에 웅크리고 떨기 속에 숨어 노리고 있는

⁴¹Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.새끼들이 먹이가 없어 허둥대며 하느님께 아우성칠 때에 누가 까마귀에게 먹이를 장만해 주느냐?
