1My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;아들아, 내 말을 받아들이고 내 훈계를 간직하여라.
2So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;지혜로운 말에 귀를 기울이고 바른 판단에 마음을 두어라.
3Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;슬기를 찾아 구하고 바른 판단을 얻고 싶다고 소리쳐 불러라.
4If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;은을 찾아 헤매듯 그것을 구하고 숨은 보화를 파헤치듯 그것을 찾아라.
5Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD , and find the knowledge of God.그래야 눈이 열려 야훼 두려운 줄 알게 되고 하느님이 어떤 분이신지 알게 되리라.
6For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.지혜란 야훼께서 주시는 것, 그의 입에서 떨어지는 말로 지식과 슬기를 깨치게 된다.
7He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.떳떳이 살면 도움이 되어주시고 올곧게 살면 방패가 되어주신다.
8He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.바른길 걷는 사람을 감싸주시고 당신께 마음을 쏟는 사람을 지켜주신다.
9Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea , every good path.그제야 무엇이 옳고 바르고 떳떳하며, 무엇이 복된 길인지를 알게 된다.
10When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;슬기가 네 속에 깃들이고 지식이 네 마음에 기쁨이 된다.
11Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:신중해야 몸을 지키고 판단을 바로 해야 실수가 없어,
12To deliver thee from the way of the evil man , from the man that speaketh froward things;참변이 도사린 길에서 벗어나고 거짓말하는 자의 손에서 빠져 나온다.
13Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;그들은 올바른 길을 버리고 컴컴한 뒷골목을 찾아
14Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;나쁜 짓만 즐기고 사기치며 좋아하는 자들이요,
15Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:비뚤어진 길에 발을 들여놓고 엇나간 짓만 하는 자들이다.
16To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;그제야 너는 탕녀의 유혹에서 벗어나고 남의 계집이 꾀는 말에 넘어가지 않는다.
17Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.그런 여자는 하느님 앞에서 맺은 약조를 잊고 젊은 시절에 맺은 정을 저버린 몸이다.
18For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.그런 여자가 가는 뒷골목은 죽음에 이르는 길이니, 따라가다가는 죽음의 그늘진 곳으로 내려가게 된다.
19None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.그런 여자한테로 가면 돌아오지 못하고 다시는 살아날 길이 없다.
20That thou mayest walk in the way of good men , and keep the paths of the righteous.그러니 너는 착한 사람들과 한 길을 가고 옳게 사는 사람들과 같은 길을 가거라.
21For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.세상은 떳떳한 사람이 사는 곳이요, 흠없는 사람만이 살아 남는 곳이다.
22But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.불의하게 살면 세상에서 끊기고 신용 없이 살면 뿌리가 뽑히고 만다.
