1The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.마싸 왕 르무엘이 그의 어머니에게서 배운 교훈.
2What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?아들아, 들어라. 내 속에서 나온 아들아, 들어라. 서원을 세우고 얻은 아들아, 들어라.
3Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.네 기력을 여자에게 쏟지 마라. 임금도 그리 되면 망한다.
4It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:르무엘아, 임금이 해서는 안 될 일이 있다. 포도주를 마시는 것은 왕이 할 일이 아니다. 독주를 즐기는 것은 고관들이 할 일이 아니다.
5Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.술을 마시면 법을 잊어버리고 모든 불쌍한 사람의 권리를 짓밟게 된다.
6Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.독주는 죽을 사람에게나 주어라. 포도주는 상심한 사람에게나 주어라.
7Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.그것을 마시면 가난을 잊고 괴로움을 생각지 아니하리라.
8Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.너는 할 말 못하는 사람과 버림받은 사람의 송사를 위해 입을 열어라.
9Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.입을 열어 바른 판결을 내려 불쌍하고 가난한 사람들의 권리를 세워주어라.
10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.누가 어진 아내를 얻을까? 그 값은 진주보다 더하다.
11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.남편은 넉넉히 벌어들이는 아내를 믿고 마음이 든든하다.
12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.백 년을 한결같이 속 썩이지 않고 잘해 준다.
13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.양털과 모시를 구해다가 손을 놀리니 즐겁기만 하구나.
14She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.마치 상선과도 같아 멀리서 양식을 구해 온다.
15She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.아직 어두울 때 일어나 식구들에게 음식을 나누어주고 여종들에게 일을 맡긴다.
16She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.밭을 사도 잘 생각해서 사고 제 손으로 벌어 포도원을 장만한다.
17She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.허리를 동인 모습은 힘차고 일하는 두 팔은 억세기만 하다.
18She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.머리가 잘 돌아 하는 일마다 잘되고 밤에 등불이 꺼지는 일도 없다.
19She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.손수 물레질을 해서 손가락으로 실을 탄다.
20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.불쌍한 사람에게 팔을 벌리고 가난한 사람에게 손을 뻗친다.
21She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.온 식구를 두둑히 입혀서 눈이 와도 걱정이 없다.
22She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.손수 이부자리를 만들고 모시와 붉은 털로 옷을 짜 입는다.
23Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.남편은 지방 어른들과 함께 성문에 앉아 존경을 받는다.
24She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.모시로 옷을 지어 팔고 띠를 만들어 상인에게 넘긴다.
25Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.몸매무새에는 힘과 위엄이 나타나고 앞일을 걱정하지 않는다.
26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.입을 열면 지혜로운 말이 나오고 혀를 놀리면 친절한 가르침이 나온다.
27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.항상 집안 일을 보살피고 놀고 먹는 일 없다.
28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also , and he praiseth her.그래서 아들들이 일어나 찬양하고 남편도 칭찬하기를,
29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all."살림 잘하는 여자가 많아도 당신 같은 사람은 없소." 한다.
30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD , she shall be praised.아름다운 용모는 잠깐 있다 스러지지만 야훼를 경외하는 여인은 칭찬을 듣는다.Notes
