시편 54편은 십 사람들이 다윗의 숨은 곳을 사울에게 알렸을 때를 배경으로 하는 7절짜리 다윗의 탄원시다. 구원을 요청하는 기도로 시작해 하나님을 돕는 분으로 고백하고 감사의 제사를 다짐하며 끝난다.

¹Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.오, 하나님, 주님의 이름으로 나를 구해 주십시오.주님의 능력으로 내 권리를 찾아 주시기 바랍니다.

²Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.오, 하나님, 내 기도를 들어 주십시오! 내 입의 말에 귀 기울여 주십시오!

³For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.낯선 사람들이 나를 치려고 일어났으니까요. 폭력배들이 내 목숨을 노리니까요. 그들은 하나님을 자신들 앞에 모시지 않습니다. 셀라.

⁴Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.그래, 나를 돕는 분은 하나님이셔. 이 몸을 떠받쳐 주는 분은 주님이셔.

⁵He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.그 나쁜 짓이 나를 적으로 대하는 사람들에게 돌아가게 해 주십시오! 주님의 참되심으로 그들을 다 없애 주십시오.

⁶I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD ; for it is good.기꺼이 내가 주님께 희생제물을 바치겠습니다. 내가 주님의 이름을 찬양하겠습니다, 오, 여호와여, 그렇게 하는 것이 좋으니까요.

⁷For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.온갖 어려움에서 여호와가 나를 건져 내 주셨어. 내 원수들이 망하는 것을 내가 내 눈으로 보고 좋아했지.
