시편 20편은 위기나 전쟁을 앞둔 왕을 위해 백성이 드리는 기도시이다. 군사력이 아니라 여호와의 이름을 의지하겠다는 고백(7절)으로 널리 알려져 있다.

1The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;우리의 임금님께서 고난 가운데서 주님께 기도하실 때에 주님께서 임금님께 응답하여 주시기를 원합니다. 야곱의 하나님께서 친히 임금님을 지켜 주시기를 바랍니다.
2Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;성소에서 임금님을 도우시고, 시온에서 임금님을 붙들어 주시기를 원합니다.
3Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.임금님께서 바치는 모든 제물을 주님께서 기억하여 주시고 임금님께서 올리는 번제를 주님께서 기쁘게 받아 주시기를 바랍니다. (셀라)
4Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.임금님의 소원대로, 주님께서 임금님께 모든 것을 허락하여 주시고, 임금님의 계획대로, 주님께서 임금님께 모든 것을 이루어 주시기를 원합니다.
5We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.우리는 임금님의 승리를 소리 높여 기뻐하고, 우리 하나님의 이름으로 깃발을 높이 세워 승리를 기뻐할 수 있도록, 주님께서 임금님의 모든 소원을 이루어 주시기를 원합니다.
6Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.나는 이제야 알았습니다. 주님께서는 기름을 부으신 왕에게 승리를 주시고, 그 거룩한 하늘에서 왕에게 응답하여 주시고, 주님의 힘찬 오른손으로 왕에게 승리를 안겨 주시는 분이심을 알았습니다.
7Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.어떤 이는 전차를 자랑하고, 어떤 이는 기마를 자랑하지만, 우리는 주 우리 하나님의 이름만을 자랑합니다.
8They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.대적들은 엎어지고 넘어지지만, 우리는 일어나서 꿋꿋이 섭니다.
9Save, LORD : let the king hear us when we call.주님, 우리의 왕에게 승리를 안겨 주십시오. 우리가 주님을 부를 때에, 응답하여 주십시오.
