1Jotham was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok.요담이 왕이 되었을 때에, 그는 스물다섯 살이었다. 그는 예루살렘에서 열여섯 해 동안 다스렸다. 그의 어머니 여루사는 사독의 딸이다.
2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD , according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the LORD . And the people did yet corruptly.그는 아버지 웃시야가 한 것을 그대로 본받아서, 주님께서 보시기에 올바른 일을 하였으나, 그의 아버지와는 달리, 주님의 성전에는 들어가지 않았다. 그러나 백성은 계속하여 악한 일을 저질렀다.
3He built the high gate of the house of the LORD , and on the wall of Ophel he built much.그는 주님의 성전의 ‘북쪽 문’을 만들어 세웠고, 오벨 성벽도 더 연장하여 쌓았다.
4Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.유다의 산간지방에는 성읍들을 건축하고, 산림지역에는 요새를 만들고 망대를 세웠다.
5He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third.더욱이 그는 암몬 자손의 왕들과 싸워서 이겼다. 그 해에 암몬 자손은 은 백 달란트와, 밀 만 석과 보리 만 석을 조공으로 바쳤고, 그 다음 해에도, 또 삼 년째 되는 해에도, 암몬 자손은 같은 양으로 조공을 바쳤다.
6So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.요담은, 주 그의 하나님 앞에서 바른 길을 걸으며 살았으므로 점점 강해졌다.
7Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.요담이 다스리던 기간에 생긴 다른 사건들, 그가 전쟁에 나가 싸운 것과 그의 행적들은, ‘이스라엘과 유다 열왕기’에 기록되어 있다.
8He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.그가 왕이 되었을 때에, 그는 스물다섯 살이었다. 그는 예루살렘에서 열여섯 해 동안 다스렸다.
9And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.요담이 죽어서 그의 조상과 함께 잠드니, ‘다윗 성’에 장사하였다. 그의 아들 아하스가 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.
