1Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.그러므로 나의 아들이여, 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 은혜로 굳세어지십시오.
2And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.그대가 많은 증인 앞에서 나에게서 들은 것을 믿음직한 사람들에게 전하십시오. 그러면 그들이 다른 사람들을 또한 가르칠 수 있을 것입니다.
3Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.그대는 그리스도 예수의 훌륭한 군인답게, 고난을 함께 달게 받으십시오.
4No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.군에 복무를 하는 사람은, 누구든지 자기를 군인으로 부른 상관을 기쁘게 해주어야 합니다. 그러므로 그는 살림살이에 얽매여서는 안 됩니다.
5And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.운동 경기를 하는 사람은 규칙대로 하지 않으면 월계관을 얻을 수 없습니다.
6The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.수고하는 농부가 소출을 먼저 받는 것이 마땅합니다.
7Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.내가 하는 말을 생각해 보십시오. 주께서는 모든 것을 깨닫는 능력을 그대에게 주실 것입니다.
8Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:내가 전하는 복음대로 다윗의 자손으로 나시고, 죽은 사람 가운데서 살아나신 예수 그리스도를 기억하십시오.
9Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.나는 이 복음 때문에 고난을 당하고, 죄수처럼 매여 있으나, 하나님의 말씀은 매여 있지 않습니다.
10Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.그러므로 나는 하나님께서 택하여 주신 사람을 위하여, 모든 것을 참고 있습니다. 이것은 그들도 또한 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 구원을 영원한 영광과 함께 얻게 하려 하는 것입니다.
11It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him , we shall also live with him :이 말씀은 믿을 만합니다. 우리가 주님과 함께 죽었으면 또한 그와 함께 살 것이요,
12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him : if we deny him , he also will deny us:우리가 참고 견디면 또한 그와 함께 다스릴 것이요, 우리가 그를 부인하면 그도 또한 우리를 부인하실 것입니다.
13If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.우리는 신실하지 못하더라도, 그는 언제나 신실하십니다. 그는 자기를 부인할 수 없으시기 때문입니다. Notes
14Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.신도들에게 이것을 일깨우십시오. 하나님 앞에서 그들에게 엄숙히 명하여, 말다툼을 하지 못하게 하십시오. 그것은 아무 유익이 없고, 듣는 사람들을 파멸에 이르게 할 뿐입니다.
15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.그대는 진리의 말씀을 올바르게 가르치는 부끄러울 것 없는 일꾼으로, 하나님께 인정을 받는 사람이 되기를 힘쓰십시오.
16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.속된 허튼 소리를 피하십시오. 그것이 사람을 더욱더 불경건에 빠지게 합니다.
17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;그들의 말은 악성 종기처럼 퍼져 나갈 것입니다. 그들 가운데에는, 후메내오와 빌레도가 있습니다.
18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.그들은 진리에서 멀리 떠나 버렸고, 부활은 이미 지나갔다고 말하면서, 사람들의 믿음을 뒤엎습니다.
19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.그러나 하나님의 기초는 이미 튼튼히 서 있고, 거기에는 "주께서 자기에게 속한 사람을 아신다"는 말씀과 "주님의 이름을 부르는 사람은 다 불의에서 떠나라" 는 말씀이 새겨져 있습니다.
20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.큰 집에는 금그릇과 은그릇만 있는 것이 아니라, 나무그릇과 질그릇도 있어서, 어떤 것은 귀하게 쓰이고, 어떤 것은 천하게 쓰입니다. Notes
21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.그러므로 누구든지 내가 말한 이러한 것들로부터 자신을 깨끗하게 하면, 그는 주인이 온갖 좋은 일에 요긴하게 쓰는, 귀하고 성별된 그릇이 될 것입니다.
22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.그대는 젊음의 정욕을 피하고, 깨끗한 마음으로, 주님을 찾는 사람들과 함께 의와 믿음과 사랑과 평화를 좇으십시오.
23But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.어리석고 무식한 논쟁을 멀리하십시오. 그대가 아는 대로, 거기에서 싸움이 생깁니다.
24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men , apt to teach, patient,주님의 종은 다투지 말아야 합니다. 그는 모든 사람에게 온유하고, 잘 가르치고, 참을성이 있어야 하고,
25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;반대하는 사람을 온화하게 바로잡아 주어야 합니다. 그렇게 하면, 하나님께서 그 반대하는 사람을 회개시키셔서, 진리를 깨닫게 하실 수도 있을 것입니다.
26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.그리고 악마에게 사로잡혀서 악마의 뜻을 좇던 그들이, 정신을 차려 그 악마의 올무에서 벗어날 것입니다.
