¹Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.형제자매 여러분, 내 마음의 간절한 소원과 하나님께 드리는 기도는, 내 동족으로 하여금 구원을 받게 하는 것입니다.

²For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.나는 증언합니다. 그들은 하나님을 섬기는 데 열성이 있습니다. 그러나 그 열성은 올바른 지식에서 생긴 것이 아닙니다.

³For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.그들은 하나님의 의를 알지 못하고, 자신의 의를 세우려고 힘을 쓰면서, 하나님의 의에는 복종하지 않았습니다.

⁴For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.그러므로 그리스도께서는 모든 믿는 사람을 의롭게 해주시려고 율법에 끝마침이 되셨습니다. Notes

⁵For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.모세는 율법에 근거한 의를 두고 기록하기를 "율법을 행한 사람은 그것으로 살 것이다" 하였습니다.

⁶But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above :)그러나 믿음에 근거한 의를 두고는, 이렇게 말합니다. "너는 마음 속으로 '누가 하늘에 올라갈 것이냐' 하고 말하지 말아라. (그것은 그리스도를 끌어내리는 것이다.)

⁷Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)또 '누가 지옥에 내려갈 것이냐' 하고 말하지도 말아라. (그것은 그리스도를 죽은 사람들 가운데서 끌어올리는 것이다.)"

⁸But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;그러면 그것은 무엇을 뜻합니까? "하나님의 말씀은 네게 가까이 있다. 네 입에 있고, 네 마음에 있다" 하는 말씀이 있습니다. 이것은 우리가 전파하는 믿음의 말씀입니다.

⁹That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.입으로 예수는 주님이라고 고백하고, 하나님께서 그를 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살리신 것을 마음으로 믿는 사람은 구원을 얻을 것입니다. Notes

¹⁰For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.사람은 마음으로 믿어서 의에 이르고, 입으로 고백해서 구원에 이릅니다.

¹¹For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.성경은 "그를 믿는 사람은 누구나 부끄러움을 당하지 않을 것이다" 하고 말합니다.

¹²For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.유대 사람이나, 그리스 사람이나, 차별이 없습니다. 그는 모든 사람에게 꼭 같이 주님이 되어 주시고, 그를 부르는 모든 사람에게 풍성한 은혜를 내려 주십니다.

¹³For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."주의 이름을 부르는 사람은 누구나 구원을 얻을 것입니다." Notes

¹⁴How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?그런데 사람들은 자기들이 믿은 적이 없는 분을 어떻게 부를 수 있겠습니까? 또 들은 적이 없는 분을 어떻게 믿겠습니까? 선포하는 사람이 없으면, 어떻게 들을 수 있겠습니까? Notes

¹⁵And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!보내심을 받지 않았는데, 어떻게 선포할 수 있겠습니까? 성경에 기록된 바 "기쁜 소식을 전하는 이들의 발걸음이 얼마나 아름다우냐!" 한 것과 같습니다.

¹⁶But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?그러나 모든 사람이 다 복음에 순종한 것은 아닙니다. 이사야는 "주님, 우리에게서 들은 것을 누가 믿었습니까?" 하고 말하였습니다.

¹⁷So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.그러므로 믿음은 들음에서 생기고, 들음은 그리스도를 전하는 말씀에서 비롯됩니다. Notes

¹⁸But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.그러면 내가 묻습니다. 그들은 들은 일이 없습니까? 물론 그렇지 않습니다. 성경 말씀에 "그들의 목소리가 온 땅에 퍼지고, 그들의 말이 땅 끝까지 퍼졌다" 하였습니다.

¹⁹But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.내가 다시 묻습니다. 이스라엘이 알지 못하였습니까? 이에 대하여 하나님께서 먼저 모세를 통하여 이렇게 말하였습니다. "나는 내 백성이 아닌 사람들로 너희의 질투심을 일으키고, 미련한 백성들로 너희의 분노를 자아내겠다."

²⁰But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.또한, 이사야는 담대하게 이렇게 말씀을 전하였습니다. "나를 찾지 않던 사람들을 내가 만나 주고, 나를 구하지 않던 사람들에게 내가 나타났다."

²¹But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.또한 이사야는 하나님께서 이스라엘을 보고 "복종하지 않고 거역하는 백성에게, 나는 온종일 내 손을 내밀었다" 하신 말씀을 선포하였습니다.
