시편 3편은 다윗이 아들 압살롬을 피해 도망할 때 지은 시로 소개되는 8절의 기도시이다. 많은 대적 앞에서 여호와를 방패로 고백하고 구원을 구한다.

1LORD , how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.주님, 나를 대적하는 자들이 어찌 이렇게도 많습니까? 나를 치려고 일어서는 자들이 어찌 이렇게도 많습니까?
2Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.나를 빗대어 "하나님도 너를 돕지 않는다" 하고 빈정대는 자들이 어찌 이렇게도 많습니까? (셀라)
3But thou, O LORD , art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.그러나 주님, 주님은 나의 방패, 내 명예를 회복시켜 주시는 분, 나를 떳떳하게 살게 해주시는 분이시니,
4I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.내가 주님을 바라보며 소리 높여 부르짖을 때에, 주께서는 그 거룩한 산에서 응답하여 주십니다. (셀라)
5I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.내가 누워 곤하게 잠 들어도 또다시 깨어나게 되는 것은, 주께서 나를 붙들어 주시기 때문입니다.
6I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.나를 대적하여 사방에 진을 친 자들이, 천만 대군이라 하여도, 나는 두려워하지 않으렵니다.
7Arise, O LORD ; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.주님, 일어나십시오. 나의 하나님, 이 몸을 구원해 주십시오. 아, 주께서 내 모든 원수들의 턱을 치시고, 악인들의 이빨을 부러뜨리셨습니다.
8Salvation belongeth unto the LORD : thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.구원은 주께만 있습니다. 주의 백성에게 복을 내려 주십시오. (셀라)
