시편 87편은 고라 자손의 시로, 하나님이 사랑하시는 시온을 노래하고 애굽·바벨론·블레셋·두로·구스 같은 이방 민족들도 시온에서 났다고 일컬어지리라고 선포하는 7절짜리 짧은 시다.

¹His foundation is in the holy mountains.주께서 그의 성을 거룩한 산에 세우셨다.

²The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.주님은 시온의 문들을 야곱의 어느 처소보다 더욱 사랑하신다.

³Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.너 하나님의 성이여, 너를 가리켜 영광스럽다고 말한다. (셀라)

⁴I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there."내가 라합과 바빌로니아를 나를 아는 나라로 셈하겠다. 블레셋과 두로와 에티오피아도 시온에서 태어났다고 하겠다."

⁵And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.시온을 두고 말하기를, 가장 높으신 분께서 친히 시온을 세우실 것이니, "이 사람 저 사람이 거기에서 났다"고 할 것이다.

⁶The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.주께서 민족들을 등록하실 때에, 그 수를 세시며 "이 사람이 거기에서 났다"고 기록하실 것이다. (셀라)

⁷As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.노래하는 이들과 춤을 추는 이들이 말한다. "모든 근원이 네 안에 있다."
